EXAMPLES OF POTENTIAL VOCAL ABUSE
Abusive laughter
Abusive singing
Abusive speaking or singing during menstruation
Alcohol intake
Coughing
Excessive habitual loudness
Grunting (as in exercise, weight lifting)
Hard Glottal attacks
Inadequate breath support
Inappropriately high pitch
Prolonged talking
Reverse phonation
Smoking marijuana
Smoking cigarettes
Speaking or singing in smoky environments
Talking in noisy environments (Lombard effect)
Talking with excessive laryngeal tension
Throat clearing
Vocal abuse specific to children: playground yelling, cheerleading,
pep club, emulating motorcycle noises
Yelling (anger, calling to friends or pets, sports, etc.)
