My friend Bob Souer is tireless at seeking relevant articles to share on his blogsite. He found an article written by Steve Mathews on his voice over blogsite, entitled, “It’s only important to a small circle of friends”
This article rings so true. There have been countless times where I may have been slightly sick, or had just gotten into a disagreement with my spouse, relative, woke up on the wrong side of the bed, etc., and HAD to let it all go when that mic was open, or when the camera was rolling. What I found was that my work was therapeutic, and a grand distraction for whatever my real or perceived issue may have been. I always had a fresh perspective when finished with my work that day.
I believe it comes from learning to control and discipline negative emotions. Done repeatedly, becoming a consummate professional in this respect is natural.
The mark of a true professional is to not allow personal issues play a role in your performance. As they say, “check your baggage at the door”.
I thank Bob for finding this post, and providing yet another person’s vision to share.
