This morning I registered to attend the 37th annual Comic-Con International in San Diego’s convention center. It runs Thursday through Sunday (7/26-29).
This is one mega convention that not only grows, but thrives. Many of the large conventions from the ’80’s and 90’s, like COMDEX are gone. So this is special!
Thursday-Sunday, and expected 120,000+ will attend to celebrate and learn from the best in Comic Books, anime, graphics, video games, comic strips, cartoons and everything related between the various genres.
This event began quietly and modestly in 1970 in a San Diego hotel basement. Now, with expected attendance in hyper growth mode, and convention center fire code capacity constrants , Saturday and the four-day multi day passes are already sold out.
There are hundreds of seminars to choose from. I selected Thursday, since it’s the first day, and the crowds may be not as massive as later into the weekend. And there were a number of sessions that interested me, from the tribute to Hanna Barbera, to vid game animators, to the seminar with leaders and producers at Nickelodeon, to mention a few.
It will be my first time attending, and I anticipate I’ll be duly impressed. I’ll report my experiences later this week.
