Don La Fontaine; “Legend” doesn’t even come close

LEGEND—-Doesn’t even come close

My husband walked into our bedroom this morning and said, “I have some really sad news. Don La Fontaine died yesterday afternoon at Cedar Sinai Hospital.” He knows how I adore that man, and what a hero he was to me.

I’ve been silently mourning all day since I heard those words. I am shocked to hear of his passing. I believed he was rallying. My heartfelt condolences to his wife Nita, and his family.

I was fortunate enough to meet and have a “photo opp” with Don in March 2007 in Las Vegas. On my way up to the area to greet him, I tripped over an extension cord and fell flat on my face. I was more embarrassed than anything. And Don….was so concerned about me. He then gave me a big comforting hug that I’ll never forget.
His close friends have said, Don was truly a great human being, and not full of himself at all, despite his successes. He was helpful and kind to everyone he worked with, ….and such a sense of humor. Don La Fontaine- a gracious man with a remarkable gift of breathing life into words as he spoke them. Don always said, “love the words”.

This is the photo of Don and me from that most wonderful evening, only 18 months ago.

  1. Hi Bobbin:

Don’s passing was a kick in the teeth most certainly to his friends and family but also to peers like me and you. But your wonderful story about Don giving you the hug after your cord malfunction is a great memory that no one can take away from you.

    Best always,
    – Peter

  2. This is definitely a sad time. I’m glad you had the chance to meet him Bobbin. He sounds like he was salt of the earth.

    Hugs… Caryn
