SAG & AFTRA: Poltical Change Not Just In Washington

by | General

Well, ’tis the season for everything political, and it’s not all in our country’s capital.  I’ve happened upon some very interesting reads  I ‘d like to share.

If you’re a member of AFTRA and/or SAG, after reviewing the following, if you are at all like me you may be frustrated, disappointed, and even entertained. You may possibly even become educated. I have spoken with several members who are are apathetic, and/or just plain indifferent, completely uninvolved.

The first link features a contentious debate posted in July between SAG President Alan Rosenberg,  and AFTRA pres Roberta Reardon. Rosenberg, speaking in an interview hosted by Santa Monica, Calif.-based public radio station KCRW, said that his union’s members “have been screwed” by AFTRA’s agreement, adding that “the contract that’s on the table is inadequate and frightening in many respects.”

For some reason my link lover isn’t working on the blog tools today, so see and hear it:

There are also two excellent, quite recent articles in the Huffington Post:

The SAG elections are over, and the Unite for Strength challenger slate now has a razor-thin majority on the national SAG Board. What does this mean for the current negotiations with the AMPTP, and the possibility of revisiting  merger with AFTRA? Check this out:

The last article was penned by actress and union member, Annabelle Gurwitch, also in the Huffington Post.

So there you have it.  I’m feeling “up to speed” for now… until things change.
