It’s getting to be that time of year that’s termed as, “cold and flu season”. Here, in Southern California, we really do experience change of seasons, though more subtle than in other parts of the world.
Stephanie Ciccarelli from Voices.com posts excellent advice from VO Coaching Pros Bettye Zoller, Deb Munro and Rodney Saulsberry about the importance of protecting our most important asset, our VOICES.
As for my own personal “vocal hygiene”:
1) Wash hands- a lot
2) Take zinc tablet each day
3) Exercise daily, including some aerobic activity to push and retain lung capacity.
4) Neti Pot at first sign of nasal congestion
5) Warm (not super hot) herbal tea, water with lemon, or throat coat tea if throat is sore.
6) Keep a humididier going. Stay hydrated!
7) Don’t scream or yell. It can damage vocal cords. Rest or back off on your voice when not in the booth.
