Despite the tentative studio deal with AFTRA and SAG on a new movie and prime time TV contract, the SAG faction group ,Membership First, which was voted out of predominate power by the more moderate SAG faction, Unite For Strength last fall is back to their old campaign plan, and will spend time and resources in an attempt to derail ratification by union membership. Equally both factions will be campaigning members to convince them with arguments for and against the new deal.
Yes, division among the ranks is alive and well at SAG. No lack of drama. We’re actors, of course!
Here’s USA Today’s take from today’s publication:

Of course, SAG’s love of AFTRA , the smaller of the two actors unions is obviously at play: (I’m being facetious, of course)

My hope is members will vote this contract up with clear heads and the big picture in their sights. But then again, I could be surprised, like the last time MERGER failed by about 200 votes, thanks to SAG’s efforts.
Voting is expected to wrap up in another 4-5 weeks, but be ready for the opposition campaign. It’s just politics, as usual.
