SAG Elections-And the winds of change?

by | AFTRA, SAG, Unions

Could a third trip to the altar be “a charm”?

Can I still hope? Or am I a Pollyanna?
Could the next election on September 24th serve to end dissention amongst SAG’s rank and file and reopen the merger discussions with sister union, AFTRA?

I’ve been a long-time proponent of merger, and my heart sank, especially the last time it failed…by some 200 votes. It is said by a very reliable source those “nay” votes were lobbied during the 11th hour by a certain SAG contingent.

First read this: C21 article from July… I love AFTRA president, Roberta Reardon’s “SAG needs to figure it out,”
comment.

and  then today’s LA Times:

Could it be the perfect firestorm of economic conditions and the respective union’s contractual climate finally bring on the change that could bring the two unions in line with the present reality, to poise itself, as a newly merged “Phoenix”, and tackle the future?

And the drama continues…
