Build Your Own Microphone Pop Screen

by | Studio Equipment

I went to my local Guitar Center last night looking for a foam pop screen to fit on the capsule my Neumann mic, to keep dust particles out. I don’t put my mic away each night- but need a nice cover for it. I needed one slightly longer than the one I already have to no avail.

I’d like one that’s about 3.25″ high. Or I could use a nice dust cover cor the mic when it’s not in use.
Perhaps a clean tube sock? I think not. I need some type of microfiber that won’t put lint into the capsule.

If anyone has a suggestion, I’ll take it.

I already have a very nice metal, washable mesh pop screen that I’ve used.

While searching for the foam screen I came across this information-packed page on making your own pop screen for under $10!

  1. Great research job, Bobbin. You’re bound to help lots of followers with this one!
I, too, am looking for a suitable cover for my mic. Your comment about lint makes me realize that hanging a washcloth over mine is not such a good idea. I’ll watch your blog for better suggestions.

  2. Thank you Caroline! I appreciate your comments. Still need to find the time to search for a larger wind-screen mic cover!  Let me know if you find something.
