And the Faffing Begins

I’m at my second Faffcon, happening in Ventura, CA  The amount of energy here is contagious. I attended the first event in Portland in fall of 2010.  My, how it has grown since its debut. I think there were perhaps 75 vo peeps or so in Portland. Now, including all the sponsors and attendees, the room seemed  to hold at least twice that number.  Wow.

Faffcons idea schedule

Lots of first timers and returnees. Yesterday was like old home week, with everyone arriving and hugging. The conversations flowed well into the late night in the lobby bar and beyond.

This AM I got up and my roommate, Diane Maggipinto shared her awesome freshly ground French Roast.  This tasty treat got my eyes open and motivated me to take my “no excuses” walk at the beach (across the street) take a shower, and get down to breakfast.  Very quickly!

Not only is there energy, but the knowledge-sharing is vast.
Here, our peers set the agendas, ask the questions, and go where we need to go. Here, each person is responsible for their own learning experience.  And there are so many opportunities.

And the topics are timely and you suddenly feel comfortable with the fact that there’s so much to learn and share.  Someone will have and answer.  And you will have a golden nugget or many to share that’ll help someone else.
Yes. A golden nugget.  A newly learned resource, a website discussion, editing techniques, SEO, social media, mics VO demos, improv, marketing, bookkeeping.

These peers are open, wise, friendly, giving, and funny as hell! I’m back with my kindred souls.  We lean on each other and are islands to one another, overjoyed to get out of our “Padded cells”. And log some real face to face time.

It feels like home.

  2. Hi Dan,
Faffcon was a wonderful opportunity to gather newfound knowledge from our peers, and to share our own with others. Beyond exhilarating! Thanks for stopping in!
