VO: Where sickness is not optional…

by | Audio Books, ISDN, Personal

Just another day in the life of a working pro VO.

I was ill last weekend. I
thought it was a 24 hour flu. But it really threw me off my normally
healthy chipper and high-energy self.

I’ve been feeling better but with a lot less energy. The fever is down but I still feel so tired.

Well I found out after going to the doctor this week that I ‘ve had an infection from a cyst in my back what I never knew about.  No wonder I’ve felt so lethargic and tired.

This
morning there was an 8AM ISDN session.  I was totally geared up for
that but afterwards my energy was flagging. I wanted to go to bed!

But
I kept working. Thankfully I could accomplish much while lying down. I just
agreed to my first audiobook contract through ACX, and spent much of the
day laying down, doing a preread and prep of the book.  Perfect timing.

This afternoon, I was able to sit at my desk for a while and pen some thank
you notes while listening to an audition class I subscribe to online.
I’m still on the mend, but still taking care of biz. Thank goodness my voice has not been affected. If it were laryngitis, I would be out of business for that time until it subsided.

When you’re in business for yourself, sickness is not an option. No personal days or sick days are provided by my employer. Oh, that’s me… Take care of yourself and Happy Weekend!

  1. …poor dear. can you even remember far enough back to a time when we actually took bed rest when we were sick, instead of taking a pill and going back to work???

  2. Rowell,
Thanks for your positive vibes. I seem to have recovered well enough to begin sitting down at great lengths for my new audiobook recording! Have a fantastic week!
    Best,
