I’ve been a voice actress forever it seems, and now I’m going to my first  ever Audio Publishers Association conference taking place tomorrow in New York City.

My good pal and stellar audiobook narrator, Vanessa Hart, who has voiced about 70 books, will be my roommate this week. We’ve rented an apartment near Times Square, which is close to just about everything we’ll need and wish to do.

To say I’m excited about this adventure would be pretty accurate. I’ll be breathing the same rarified air as highly regarded publishers, and Audie Award winning narrators. Even though I’ve recorded over a dozen books, I’ve done so over the past two years, so I’m still a relative newcomer to this sandbox.

One of my personal goals is to become more well-read, so I’ve found my subscription to Audible invaluable. I’ve downloaded and listened to best-sellers, business and personal growth books, romance novels, fiction, and books narrated by my fellow voice talent friends. I can’t recommend the service enough. This is what “the good word” is all about! It’s taking the written word off the page and being transported.

The world of audiobooks is exploding as consumers clamor for mobile content, including books. I intend to listen and learn much more on the industry and more about my own audio tool box. And of course, I’ll make some new contacts, see old voiceover friends, and have fun along the way.  Happy to meet Roy Yokelson, Rosemary Benson, Heather Henderson, and see some old voicover  friends, Hillary Huber, Dave Courvoisier , Bob Souer, Eric Souer, Tom Dheere, Dale Leopold and others!

I’ll post more updates on the event as I’m able.

New York City, I return again
