I write this before gathering my stuff, calling a cab and heading to LaGuardia after an eventful and enlightening week in New York City at APAC 2013. It was audio book world immersion!

My hat is off to Tavia Gilbert for chairing the Narrator track, which I attended. Topics covered included home studio work flow, vocal health and sustainability, marketing successfully and with manners, and translating VO to narration and basic audiobook acting, and how to get good reviews.  In addition, there was Director Diagnostics, and a Publishers/Pros speed dating event! Yikes! All great!

I have so many wonderful “a-ha” moments and some great nuggets to pack into my actor’s toolkit, overflowing with inspiration.

I really enjoy narrating audiobooks because I get to go back to my roots as an actress. It is the consummate joy to act again, full-out, and become all the voices in the story. Now I get to go home and bring even more life and skill-set enhancement  into my current romance audiobook recording by author Lori Handeland.

Probably the best part of my personal experiences, and there were many great ones, was “Listening Lounge” emceed by Johnny Heller. And the narrators, and award winning narrative styles truly knocked my socks off…(if I had been wearing them)

There were plenty of opportunities to network, have fun, and eat!

The inagural Naudies party last night was a huge success as well. It was great to spend time with so many people, too numerous to mention for fear I’d leave someone out. It was great! Hugs to all!

My friend and talented audiobook voice actress in her own right, Vanessa Hart and I shared an apartment near Times Square which capped off a richly rewarding week.

Farewell New York and new/old friends. See you next time.
