It’s New. It’s Source-Connect Now

by | Digital Audio, Technology

Last week I had the pleasure of taking a tour of Source-Connect NOW, with Rebekah Wilson of Source Elements.  The new service is the latest iteration  of the broadband IP based application and contender to the  kingdom presently ruled by forty- something-year old technology of ISDN, operated by the telephone companies.

Source-Elements has just celebrated its ten-year anniversary and  in the demo,  Source-Connect Now’s signal sounded just as clear as ISDN,  and is easier to use, as the iLok is no longer required, nor is the expense of an ISDN codec tranceiver. And like the up and coming newcomer, ipDTL, all it requires is the Google Chrome browser and wide broadband Internet  connection. This could very well become a forefront ISDN alternative.

Source-Connect NOW‘s application is in Beta and the company is inviting those who currently have a Source Connect account  to a three month free trial of Source Connect NOW.

Source-Connect NOW will soon  be available to all via subscription plan. The company is working out a menu with subscription pricing and the plan is to also offer Source-Connect to ISDN bridging services at an extremely competitive rate.

Check out this Source Connect Now Beta demonstration by Pro Tools Expert I found on youtube.

  1. Thanks for putting this together Bobbin. Great to know that SC is evolving.
It’s puzzling that the company who created ISDN hasn’t been working on a more user friendly model of their own?

    • Hi Abbe,
I know! The American telephone companies are not keeping up the infrastructure to maintain and/or install new copper wire service much these days as costs of copper wire have escalated and the guys that really know how to service are being phased out and/or retiring. It’s too expensive for the business model, and many voice people are being forced to drop by rising rates or if they move their studio, they are unable to get it installed.
IP is going to be the delivery method. It’s just a matter of when, not if.
      Thanks for stopping by.
      Best,
      Bobbin
