Voxy Ladies Meetup Chicago Style!
On Friday , June 27th, I hung out with some extremely fun and talented female voice talents for a Voxy Ladies Reunion in Chicago.
TheVoxy Ladies are the original, hand picked selective collective of professional female OPEC artists representing every genre, sound and niche in the industry. Meet them all here.
A small group of six Voxys converged upon Chicago. The event was headed up by Christian Taylor and remaining attendees were yours truly, Bobbin Beam, Randye Kaye, Katie Leigh, Jodi Krangle, and Sharon Anderlik.
Our scheduled time at Chicago Recording Studio ended up being a fantastic two and a half hour workout session with an extraordinary recording engineer who specializes in national television commercial production. It was an evening of fun and creative collaboration.
Each of us had plenty of time on mic, and fellow Voxys had a hand in directing each other in a mock Internet branding campaign that our engineer synced with picture and music. The end result was astonishing to view on the large screen in the control room.
I was in awe of the talent in the room. It sounded so good!
After leaving the studio, we took in the architectural landscape as the sun set along the Chicago River; the Trump Tower, Wrigley Building, SearsTower, NBC and other landmarks looked gorgeous all lit up in the warm evening air.
We ate a fabulous meal on the patio overlooking the river at the Smith and Wollensky Steakhouse, and then walked back to the historic Palmer House, Aka Voxy Lady headquarters.
Back in the hotel room I shared with Katie Leigh and Randye Kaye, the others joined us for an informal discussion of our respective businesses, sharing information and helpful tips and solutions to digital dilemmas, room treatments, marketing, voice demos, agents, coaches, and other issues we as voice talent deal with on a continuous basis, including work-arounds for that noisy equipment that landscape contractors use, interfering with work flow!
Saturday morning we met up for breakfast. I had another event back in Milwaukee later in the day so we said our goodbyes and shared hugs all around.
I truly enjoyed the small group setting, which made for much more effective and deeper one on one communication allowing us to get to know each other better.
Most of us will see each other again at Faffcon in Tucson this September. I can’t wait to see my sisters in VO again!
Thanks Bobbin for this awesome wrap up! It was such a wonderful time. LOVED seeing you!
